Regensburg, located in the heart of Bavaria, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its Old Town is considered a "medieval wonder" and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Among its most famous buildings is the Princely Palace of St. Emmeram, the ancestral seat of the world-renowned Thurn and Taxis family.
The picturesque setting of St. Emmeram lends the "Romantic Christmas Market" an unparalleled atmosphere. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors flock here to be transported back to a time of horse-drawn carriages, noblemen, and ladies of the court. Protected by the imposing palace facade, the inner courtyard glows with a soft, atmospheric light from countless candles, lanterns, and torches.
A magnificent, ornately decorated Christmas tree stands out amidst the lovingly adorned village of festively decorated wooden huts. Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis and her family often mingle casually with the guests.
Even the youngest visitors are catered for: The "Princely Christ Child" makes regular appearances on the grand balcony and recites a cheerful and reflective poem. From the start of the market, the "Princely Christ Child" has its own heavenly mailbox at the "Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn and Taxis Palace." This is located directly beneath the grand balcony in the inner courtyard. Children can bring their wish lists, crafts, drawings, or anything else they've always wanted to say to the "Princely Christ Child" in an envelope and drop it in. The Christ Child will, of course, personally answer every letter, provided an address is on file!
Under centuries-old maple trees, surrounded by the sweet scent of roasted almonds and cotton candy, young visitors will find nostalgic rides and a natural petting zoo in the Children's Enchanted Forest. A fun puppet show and an imaginative mosaic workshop in the Children's Enchanted Forest help pass the time while waiting for the Christ Child.
The charming craft village, set against the backdrop of the picturesque castle, transports visitors back in time. Every cottage is bustling with activity: traditional artisans produce their wares and unique items, offering them for sale on site. Surrounded by basket weavers, goldsmiths, furriers, woodcarvers, soap makers, and many others, every guest will be captivated by the magic of the "Romantic Christmas Market."
Every Sunday is girls' night: Whether young or young at heart – admission to the Christmas market is free for all girls from 7:00 pm.
